What is
circularity?
stewardship

Keeping materials in use.

Circularity is the economic concept of reusing, re-purposing and regenerating products and resources to eliminate waste. It is the foundational idea behind the circular economy. The traditional linear economic model follows a "take-make-dispose" model, extracting resources, creating products, and then discarding them as waste. Circularity is the core sustainable business practice that protects the environment. Circular product solutions minimize carbon emissions throughout a product’s lifecycle, from production to waste management. The circular economy is the ultimate goal of sustainability.

How does circular resin fit into sustainability?

un

The United Nations has developed 17 goals for sustainable development. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. .

SDG

Sustainable development goal 12 is to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. The UN brief on goal 12 notes that there are many aspects of consumption that with simple changes can have a big impact on society as a whole. For example, the global material footprint – an indicator of the pressure put on the environment to support economic growth and to satisfy the material needs of people – grew by 17.4 per cent to 85.9 billion metric tons in 2017 as compared to 2010. What steps are we taking?

Labcon's efforts to respond to goal 12 have begun before the adoption of the goal in 2015. But this now extends to the use of resins that come from a circular economy model. Resin is recovered from used products in labs and reprocessed into a usable grade of resin for Labcon Evolve™ products.
